ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Exchange Club of Albany memorialized the Dougherty County Police officer killed in the line of duty as they honored other outstanding officers Friday.

A single candle was lit to remember Lt. Cliff Rouse who was gunned down December 23 while chasing a man who robbed an East Dougherty County convenience store.

One of the officers of the year honored today was the deputy who captured the suspected gunman.

Cpl. Tommy Bruce said his award goes to all the officers who responded that night.

"We probably had 75 or 80 officers out there. They are all my heroes, I can tell you that. It was great. I wish they all could get awards like this," said Bruce.

Lt. Rouse was a former Exchange Club as officer of the year.
