LAKELAND, GA (WALB) -  Drug agents raided a home in Lanier County and confiscated cash, powder cocaine, and crack.

Investigators say crack is the most common drug in the county and it leads to many other crime problems.

When agents approached a Lakeland home Tuesday afternoon, the suspected drug dealer ran inside and locked the door.

Agents had to force their way inside.

The most prevalent drug in Lanier County is crack.

"They buy powder cocaine in small quantities and they're able to cut that with cutting agents to cook it which there goes the cracking sound but it nets them more for they're investment," said Lanier County Major Larry Singletary.

Dealers cut it in half and add baking soda and baby laxative

Sheriff Nick Norton says a kilo of cocaine that costs about $30,000 can be turned into at least $172,000 worth of product.

Tuesday the Lanier County narcotics unit with the assistance of state k-9s and the South Georgia Drug Task Force raided an East MLK Drive home. They seized crack, cocaine, marijuana baggies, scales about a thousand dollars in cash and a Chevy Tahoe. 31-year old Bobby Henry Junior was arrested.

"The drug problem in Lanier County is pretty much what you see across the south," said Maj. Singletary. Just when we think we have a handle on it we see something new popping up."

"I don't think drugs will ever stop because it's all over the world, the United States," said Patrick Thomas of Lakeland.

"It doesn't take but for one step for a child to get hooked on it," said Carolyn Dampier.

Maj. Singletary says they rely on informants, tips from citizens, and undercover operations to fight the drug battle, a constant battle law enforcers promise to continue to fighting.

Bobby Henry, Jr. is charged with selling a controlled substance and possession of cocaine and marijuana with intent to distribute.
