ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Deerfield-Windsor swim team hit the pool on Saturday in Atlanta looking for to stay perfect and bring the hardware back to Albany but came up just 7 points shy of winning it all.
The boy's team finished 2nd overall while the girls notched a 3rd place finish. It was the first time since 1991, when the program was founded, that the boy's team placed at the state meet.
Senior swimmer Taylor Withers won two individual state titles in both the 50 free and the 100 free. The boys 200 freestyle relay team also earned a state title. Withers says it was a bitter sweet day for himself and his teammates.
Taylor Withers said "It was cool to win my 50 and 100 free but at the end of the day I'm probably more disappointed than happy because the team title probably would have meant more but im defiantly happy with what I took away from the meet. It was a little bitter sweet, I was happy to go out with our team doing so well and winning 2 state titles but at the same time its kind of sad that its over because I had fun doing it."
