Community meeting planned for Hispanics

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The murder of Sentos Vicente and other crimes targeting Hispanics, prompted a meeting for the Hispanic population in Albany.  Ana Thomas is a pastor at Jesus Lion of Judah in Albany.  She says members of her church are frightened by the recent murder of the teenager and other crimes.

Last June, an intruder kicked in a door on Morningside Drive and shot Juan Gaspar.  Another Hispanic man who lived nearby was robbed a week earlier.

In December, several Hispanic families in the Dunes mobile home park were robbed at gunpoint.

She said, "So we need to work together with the authorities, the police force so they can learn what they need to do."

Thomas says one reason they are often targeted is because they often don't have bank accounts and carry cash.  She works at Capitol City Bank where she helps Hispanics establish checking accounts.

The community meeting for Hispanics will be held Saturday (Feb. 5th) morning at 10 AM at Darton College.  It's in building J, room 115.
