ALBANY, GA (WALB) -     A Sylvester teen escapes injury this afternoon when his car is hit by a train.

Traffic in downtown Albany was snarled for more than an hour, as the mess was cleaned up.

The Norfolk Southern train smashed into the Honda at the intersection of North Madison and West Roosevelt around 2:15 Friday afternoon.

16 year old Darrick Johnson was on his way to Darton College, and said because there is no stop sign at the intersection, he didn't see the train until it was too late.

"About 20 feet away I saw it and I heard it and I hit the brakes. It was kind of wet so I slid. It kept sliding, and the front end just slid over the tracks."

Johnson was not hurt. The train stopped after the crash, blocking intersections along Roosevelt all the way to Washington Street for more than an hour.
