ALBANY, GA (WALB) – ADICA board members Wednesday night discussed an unusual way to try to fill empty downtown buildings.

They raised the possibility of placing a tax on vacant properties to encourage development.

It's unclear whether that would even be constitutional, so city attorney Nathan Davis said he'd look into it.

Other municipalities have introduced similar measure. In Washington D.C., a 5% tax is placed on un blighted vacant properties and a 10% tax on blighted vacant properties.
