AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

ALBANY,  GA (WALB) -   Heavy winds, lightning and broken tree limbs caused more than 2,000 people to be with out power in Americus.

Debris from the trees at the eleventh Hundred block of Hancock trapped the owners vehicles in the driveway.

Also on Meredith Street, trees fell on power and phone lines. It took Georgia Power and Sumter EMC crews all night to get their customers restored.

We spoke with two residents who described the winds as frightening and tumultuous.

"You could hear so much stuff hitting your home. The wind was so strong, it was whistling. That's what made everybody come outside," said George Durham.

"A little after 10:00, I heard loud winds. I came outside and saw two trees in the middle of the road," William Bailey said.

Americus City Public works came out and cleaned all left over damaged trees Wednesday morning.
