FITZGERALD, GA (WALB) –A Ben Hill County man was killed when a 60-foot tree fell on him and impaled him on a Cypress root.

44-year old Tim Branch was cutting firewood in woods off Hartwell Road in Queensland Saturday afternoon.

As he ran out of the way of a falling oak tree he tripped over some vines and fell on his back on top of a pointed cypress knee.

The tree then fell on him and impaled him on the Cypress Knee. His wife was on the scene and called 9-1-1.

Branch was air lifted to Macon but died on the way.
