ALBANY, GA (WALB) –A former Albany private school teacher and coach is sentenced to two years in prison for molesting a 13-year old girl.

Shawn Baxley agreed to a guilty plea, though he maintained his innocence.

The popular Sherwood Christian Academy bible teacher and coach was fired in March when he was arrested for molesting a 13 year old girl in 2008.

The victim was not his student.

Two years later she told a friend, and the friend's parents called Police.

Monday friends and family members packed the courtroom for his hearing.

Baxley's attorney Jerry Brimberry said "They still consider him to be a good person. And I think the family have been very supportive. As well as all his friends, as evidence by the 30 or 35 people who showed up today."

Baxley will spend two years in prison then the next 18 on intense probation.

He must register as a sex offender, undergo counseling, and is banished from Dougherty County and all contiguous counties for the next 20-years.
