ALBANY, GA (WALB) – A Cuthbert man is found guilty of murdering his ex-girlfriend in an Albany motel.  He'll be sentenced later.

A Dougherty County jury deliberated 5 and a half hours before finding 56-year old Monty Simpson guilty of all charges.

Investigators say he strangled and beat 51-year old Beverly Williams to death at the Dollar Inn on North Slappey March 15th.

The District Attorney said Williams suffered continuing physical abuse without calling law enforcement.  He urges victims of abuse to get help.  "Please contact officials so that we can intervene and give you protection and helping this situation before you lose your life,"  said District Attorney Greg Edwards.

Edwards said he will ask the Judge to sentence Simpson to life without parole.
