ALBANY, GA (WALB) –A new battered women's shelter will open next month in Albany. Saturday, Haven of Hope invites you to a benefit banquet to learn more.

The founder says the shelter will serve the entire community, but will be a strong voice for the hispanic community.

And she says there is an urgent need to help domestic violence victims.

Haven of Hope founder Kathia Collins said "We have a lot of women calling up on a weekly basis for help. To assist them. In so many different ways. They are looking for a place to stay, and we are having to turn them down."

Haven of Hope is asking for donations of all kinds, both money and clothing and household items.

You can buy tickets for Saturday night's benefit banquet at Grand Island Country Club by calling 317-7956.
