ALBANY, GA (WALB) – What do more than 34,000 people in Dougherty County have in common?

They all volunteered with Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful.

Thursday at the Civic Center some of those volunteers were honored at a luncheon.

From cleaning up the river to recycling electronics to picking up outdated pills, the group works hard to clean up the county.

The chairman says none of the work would be possible without the more than 240,000 hours put in by volunteers each year.

Jeanette Henderson, the Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful Commission Chairman said, "this is just a way to show those volunteers how much we appreciate what they've done for us this past year."

At the luncheon there was music from students at Lake Park Elementary School and awards were presented for business and civic leaders who the organization felt made a difference in the community.
