ALBANY, GA (WALB) –Jury selection got underway Monday in the murder trial of a Cuthbert man, charged with beating his ex-girlfriend to death in an Albany motel.

56 year old Monty Simpson is charged with murder and aggravated assault, beating his ex girlfriend, Beverly Williams, to death at the Dollar Inn on North Slappey.

Prosecutors say Simpson came to the Albany motel planning to kill Williams, strangled her, then hit her in the head.

Williams had a restraining order to keep Simpson away from her.

Simpson faces life in prison if convicted.
