CUTHBERT, GA (WALB) -

By Matt Marshall

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –   A South Georgia home just down the street from the fire department is still smoldering after it was destroyed by fire early Monday morning.

It happened around 3:30AM at a home on Blakely Street in Cuthbert. The home owner's son woke him up and told him the house was on fire.

He called the fire department, and the family got out safely. The neighbors also got a call, and did what they could to help.

"We went through there from the back door, we got his car keys and moved his cars. We had enough time to go in. It was not that bad when we went in there. The fire was not that bad," said Neighbor, Manoj Sharma.

The home is a total loss, and the family was not able to save anything from inside. They had lived there from 20 years.
