VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

By Jade Bulecza - bio | email

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –  Engineers have determined that a power line shorted out underground causing the system to overload - burning out two motors over the weekend. That left people unable to drink the city's water.

Water used for drinking, food preparation, teeth brushing and any other forms of consumption should be boiled for at least one minute to kill any possible bacteria.

Bathing and washing clothes are not affected by the advisory.

Valdosta city and county schools were still open today despite the advisory. Kids are being served water bottles and prepackaged sack lunches to insure safety, and water fountains remain covered.

They hope to return to normal by Wednesday, and they are starting bacterial testing today.
