ALBANY, GA (WALB) – An Albany woman won the grand prize in a national contest at America's favorite drive in.

Velma Hamon saw her name in lights at the Ledo Road Sonic for winning Sonic's Touchdown Sweepstakes.

She gets $40,000 in cash and prizes including a 55-inch TV. Her husband is currently in Afghanistan working as a contractor.

They plan to invest the money and take a trip to Alaska when he gets home.

"I didn't think anything about it you know you always enter that sort of stuff online and so I just entered a couple of times and next thing I knew I was getting this phone call saying you are the potential winner," Velma Hamon, Flavor Touchdown Sweepstakes Winner.

She also won football-inspired travel bags and camcorders they'll use on their trip.

Workers at the store know the teacher by name. Hamon gets a large diet coke a couple days a week on her way to and from work.
