Cold weather won't stop Tville Camellia Show this year

THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) –A popular south Georgia flower show will be held this year after being canceled the past two years due to freezing temperatures.

Officials with the annual Thomasville Camellia Show say the cold has affected local blooms in recent years.

They say a show held a couple weeks ago in Tallahassee was successful which prompted them to go on with the show this Saturday at the Thomasville Garden Center.

Organizers do have one big tip for participants getting their blooms ready.

"Do not freeze them!" warns Thomasville's Briarcliff Garden Club President Angie Pickle. "That's what's wrong with them now is that they are frozen. You can put them in a cup of water and put them in your refrigerator but please don't put them in the freezer."

Organizers also are planning ahead for next year by moving the show from the fourth weekend in January to the second weekend in February to take advantage of warmer weather.
