Lily Pad Center accepts vital donations

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The Lily Pad Center was presented with two checks from nationwide companies with Albany ties, who want to make certain the shelter stays open.

Recently, the sexual assault advocacy center has struggled financially.

Mars Chocolate North America's plant manager gave the Lily Pad a thousand dollars. Employees spent the last year working to reduce to amount of waste they produce at the Albany plant.

Every month, a little money went into a pot and when employees decided to give it to the Lily Pad. The National Association of Women in Construction who also made a $3,000 donation. 

"Each month I would ask the associates to provide names of where they would like to utilize the money and we chose the Lily Pad," said Mars Chocolate North America Plant Manager Kelvin Graham.

"We try and do anything we can for the community, when we hear they were in need, the whole group all unanimously decided they wanted to try to help out,"

Lily Pad director Karen Kemp said the four programs run out of the Lily Pad serve 35 south Georgia counties and three different site the Lily pad runs.
