AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - Most teams don't pay attention to the national polls.
The story is different at Georgia Southwestern where the young Hurricanes are continuing to climb the mountain to the top in the NCAA Division two and Peach Belt Conference.
Mike Leeder's Canes taking another step up the mountain with their first NCAA Division II national ranking in school history.
The Canes are ranked 21st in latest National Association of Basketball Coaches national poll.
Georgia Southwestern has won five straight and are in first place Peach Belt Conference's western division.
Head coach Mike Leeder says his players have bought into the winning concept but still have work to be done.
GSW forward Phillip Brown has been named the Peach Belt Conference player of the week award for the second straight week.
The Hurricanes host North Georgia on Wednesday.
