Darton softball signs nine players

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - With their season opener in two weeks, Darton softball head coach David Dews and his assistant coach Sam White are making sure the Lady Cavs will be national title contenders for the next two seasons.

Darton softball has signed nine players including four on campus Tuesday.

Headlining the class is Morrow High outfielder Chelsea Showers who set GHSA records for homeruns and rbis in a season.

Darton also signing infielders Holly Smith from West Laurens High and Salem High's Jessica Vason.

The Lady Cavs need pitching and they have two good ones in Dacula's Jenny Willis and Jessica Wilkinson from Arizona.

Darton also getting Wilkinson's teammate Breanna Contreras from Perry, Arizona High School.

Lady Cavs also signing first baseman Bre Stevens from Appleton, Wisconsin along with infielder Kelsea Ogletree from Lassiter High and catcher Jessica Wimberly from David Emanuel Academy.

Coach Dews says this class is talented and has the heart to compete for a national championship.

David Dews said. "I think it is a real diverse group, a real athletic group. More than that their character is outstanding. I think they are right kind of kids to keep our momentum going with our program."

These players will join Darton next year.

Darton opens the 2011 season at home February 2nd against Andrew College.
