ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Georgia Firebirds, a semi-pro football team, are back home today in Tifton after winning the 2011 MLK Bowl in Miami Florida.
The team brought home the hardware to Southwest Georgia after defeating the Buffalo Gladiators out of New York 35-15 as part of the Sunshine Bowl Sports Extravaganza.
The Firebirds will begin their 3rd season next month and are ranked 3rd in the United Football Federation or UFF. Head coach and GM Terence Fowler says it was a huge win for his organization.
Fowler said "Its a huge victory because being down there and handling ourselves as professional as we did and the way we won our game we have a target on your backs so to speak. A lot of teams from Ohio, North Carolina, Texas, they want some of the Georgia Firebirds now."
The Firebirds will begin their regular season on February 26th. For more information, you can log onto www.georigafirebirds.com
