ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Panthers Arena Football team will hold its annual open tryout at the Albany Civic Center on January 22,2011. We caught up with one man that didn't plan on taking his shot at making the team but after losing a bet with his son, Quincey Davis will be dusting off the old cleats and hitting the turf.
The old saying goes be careful what you wish for because...well you know the rest..
"If you get all A's on your next report card then Ill go out and tryout, wouldn't lose any sleep. Two weeks later came back all A's."
And that's how it happened. What began as a bet with his 15 year old son, now has this 34 year old father of 4 hitting the weights and treadmill to tryout for the Albany Panthers.
"Don't give up, don't let somebody tell you that you can't do something you start putting limitations on your life and when you start putting limitations on your life will that's when you're life will slow down or come to and end"
But Quincey is no stranger to the game, he played football at Monroe and ran track at Westover. Now he coaches a pee wee football team and runs American Bodyworks on Dawson road...a hectic schedule but Q stays focused
"My thing with keeping up with the youngster, I'm kinda hoping they can keep up with me. My mentality is on a whole different level, so that's going to be the thing for me if they can keep up with me. I'm probably going to be the oldest guy out there but."
"You've got to have that drive, you've got to have something that drives you and I tell everybody whether its your kids, your wife, your Mom, whatever. You've got to have something that drives you."
And when asked why he thinks he can do this...he shot back with....
"I don't think, I know, I know. I'm one of those few that knows I can do it."
