ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Saturday would have been the 82nd birthday of one of America's civil rights hero Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

To honor the occasion the Americops cadets and several Albany area residents paid tribute to MLK by giving back to the community. They picked up trash around three public housing units in Albany.

The day started with a speech from motivational speaker Patrick Williams.

He reminded the crowd through some people's actions and the violence in society, part of MLK's dream has not been realized.

"We have a very long way to go as a people," said Williams.

Williams urged volunteers to live life with a purpose and do their best to help others who need it.
