ALBANY, GA (WALB) –A fire that one Albany family was using to stay warm sparked a blaze that burned their home.

Four people were inside the home in the 800 block of Cotton Avenue a little

after one Monday afternoon.

Family members said they built a fire in the fireplace this morning to stay warm and that blaze spread into the chimney and the walls, then into the attic.

Thick smoke poured out of the roof as firefighters tore out pieces of the wall to put out the fire.

No one was hurt.

Albany firefighters responded to more 60 calls Monday, many of them reports of power lines down.
