Five people injured in SUV rollover

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A wreck in Albany sent five people to the hospital after a SUV rolled over several times on West Oakridge drive. Witnesses say there were at least two children involved.

WALB News Ten's Tayleigh Davis spoke to the woman who saw the wreck. She says she tried to help a young girl who was hurt.

By the looks of this car, you wouldn't think anyone made it out alive. All five people inside did. Witnesses say they saw several people lying on the ground, including two kids. Leslie Benoit was pulling out of the nearby mobile home park when she saw the SUV go airborne.

"It was flipping and you could see the bottom of the car," said Benoit. "I jumped out and said there are kids!  "

She used her own jacket to keep the girl warm while witnesses grabbed blankets.

"It looked like she was thrown from the truck," Benoit added. "She was crying and we told her everything was okay. She got more upset when she saw her brother. We explained to him we were trying to keep her calm."

Albany Police blocked off West Oakridge drive near Westover boulevard around 1:00 p.m., while officers directed traffic and firefighters cleaned up the mess.

Lieutenant Lorenzo Hall says EMS crews rushed at least four people to the hospital.

"First thing that came to my mind was pray," said Lt. Hall. "The only thing that was looking bad was the car."

Crews removed the SUV which came inches away from underground cable boxes. Neighbors say the fence may have kept it from rolling over more than it did.

We do not know the conditions, ages, or names of the passengers in the car. We've tried contacting the Albany Police Department and have not heard back.
