Phoebe chief saluted by magazine

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Phoebe Putney CEO Joel Wernick has been named as one of the 100 most influential Georgians.

Georgia Trend published the list in this month's edition.

As Phoebe's territory and Wernick's responsibilities grow, he says he stays grounded and focused on his mission because of the people he serves.

"When I interact with patients families and patients themselves, and see both the happiness of people who have been helped, and the sorrow of the people who go through those changes in life that always occur, and sometimes end in death, but know that the care that was needed was there and the comfort that they needed was there."

When Wernick arrived at Phoebe in 1990, the hospital only had one site. The Phoebe System now includes 30 sites.

Wernick was named one of the 25 top state leaders by the magazine last year.
