VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –Lowndes County leaders are moving ahead with a plan to expand the commission.

The commission unanimously approved a resolution Monday creating two new super districts that divide the county in half east and west. Voters approved a referendum on it last year.

"I'm excited about the expansion and I hope it goes through with no problems and all the new commissioners coming in, we are all excited," said Joyce Evans with County Commission.

The General Assembly must now approve the plan and send it to the Department of Justice and by 2014 there could be a total of five commissioners and non-voting chairman.
