ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Four people were injured when a tractor trailer slammed into the back of an SUV on Highway 82 in Terrell County Monday morning.

One eastbound lane of the busy road was closed as the injured were loaded into ambulances. The tractor trailer driver, Billy Joe Dempsey, told troopers he was blinded by the sun. His truck slammed into Charlie Watson's SUV and knocked it off the highway and into a tree. Some out of state emergency responders saw what happened and rushed to help the family.

"(They) happened to be going by seen what had happened and stopped and offered their help and we're really grateful for it," said Terrell County Sheriff John Bowens.

Watson, and his four and nine year old granddaughters were wearing seat belts and were treated for injuries. Watson's wife Annie Adams had just unbuckled her seat belt to grab something for one of the kids and received cuts to her head and face. Dempsey has been cited for following too close.
