MOUNT VERNON, GA (WALB) - The Dougherty High girls basketball team will ring in the New Year with a tournament championship.
The Lady Trojans defeated Bryan County 42-32 to win the Brewton-Parker Christmas Classic title in Mount Vernon.
Dougherty defeated Montgomery County in the first round Tuesday and beat Liberty County in the semifinals.
At the Tift County McDonald's Invitational on Thursday, Tift County boys lost to Collins Hill 66-58, Whitefield Academy defeated Wilcox County 93-76, Valdosta High beats Buford 82-73, Lowndes wins at the buzzer 71-68 over Central Gwinnett and Thomas County Central defeats Crisp County 69-65.
In girls action, Tift County girls defeat Crisp County 47-37, Lowndes girls beat Turner County 55-41 and Cook Lady Hornets beat Cairo 40-38.
