Albany revisits Civic Center director search

By Wainwright Jeffers - bio | email

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – The City of Albany is starting over with the search for a new Civic Center director after talks with their top candidate fell through.

Albany businessman Lane Rosen was the number one candidate for the position. The city told us negotiations didn't work out.

There is a possible conflict of interest that had to be worked out, Rosen owns the State Theatre downtown which will compete for business with the Civic Center.

"Mr. Rosen was a very good candidate, I always like to support the local candidates, being that I've been here for 25-years, but we'll move on. We've got a couple different options one of which is to reconsider if there is someone from the most recent pool that might be worthy of further discussion," said Wes Smith, Albany Assistant City Manager.

We reached Rosen by phone Thursday, he told us "you try negotiating with this city's government at this time."

The city manager is determining the next step in the process of filling the position.
