ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  For many there's no better way to ring in the new year than with a glass of Champagne, but police warn if you're going to drink, designate a driver.

Because gas prices are at and above three dollars, Albany's three cab companies say they can't offer free rides New Year's Eve, but they're hoping those who are drinking take responsibility and designate a driver or call a cab.

All thee taxi companies will have service all night, and Harlem Cab told us today they're willing to offer those who need a ride a fair price.

"When you drive, you're taking a chance on your life and others lives and going to jail, it's much higher going to jail than getting a cab, so we'd very much appreciate people calling us," said Otha Hopkins, Harlem Cab Company Co-owner.

AAA Auto Club South and Budweiser have teamed up with Tow to Go, a program that provides a confidential ride home and tow free of charge to anyone's who may have had too much to drink by calling 1-800-AAA-HELP.

Last year they removed 1,200 intoxicated drivers from the roads between Thanksgiving and New Year's Eve.
