VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) –  Wiregrass Georgia Technical College is named Georgia's Technical College of the year.

Schools across the state were judged on criteria such as enrollment numbers and graduation rates. Enrollment increased by 34% in 2010 to about 6,200 students.

More than 750 students graduated this year, that's a 16% increase from last year. The Governor Sonny Perdue award for Technical College of the year will be presented annually.

"It's kind of like the Superbowl," said Dr. Ray Perren of Wiregrass Georgia Technical College. "Everyone remembers who won Super Bowl one but they don't remember who won Super Bowl 17, so I believe this will be something we'll always remember that wiregrass was the first recipient of the award."

Some other finalists were Albany Technical College, Atlanta Technical College, and Altamaha Technical College in Jesup.
