WALB - Albany, GA -- A grass fire on the side of the Liberty Expressway snarled traffic Wednesday afternoon in Albany.
A sheriff's deputy and passerby spotted the flames burning alongside the Bypass near the Nottingham exit.
When we got to the scene the fire had already jumped and was burning in the median.
One lane of traffic had to be shut down while firefighters got the blaze under control.
It did create smoggy conditions as smoke lingered in the area.
Fire officials aren't sure how it started.
