ALBANY, GA (WALB) – Lt. Cliff Rouse is the first officer shot and killed in the line of duty in the history of the Dougherty County Police Department.

Rouse was a shift supervisor who spent 18-years with DCP.

He was 39-years old and leaves behind a wife, a 13-year old son and a 6-year old daughter.

Officers are wearing black tape over their badges in memory of Rouse.

Lt. Jason Hager has been with the department almost as long as Rouse. Just this week they shared stories of what they got their kids for Christmas.

"Everyone is coming together, we're a group of professionals and we've still got a job to do and everyone is still doing that. Of course you think about it but you can't dwell on that type of stuff it's always there in the back of your mind," Lt. Jason Hager, Dougherty Count Police Dept.

The department is accepting memorial donations on behalf of the family at the police station.
