Store clerk speaks after robber snatches purse

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Police are searching for a purse snatcher who robbed an Albany store. The  situation could have been much worse if the store clerk didn't do what the robber had asked.

Teresa Tatum was working at Coachman Park Grocery on south Jefferson street when a man came in demanding money around 6:00 Saturday evening.

She says he appeared to be hiding a weapon in his jacket. When she couldn't get the register open, she unplugged it to hand over.

"I didn't want to die, said Tatum. "I just said I'd give this man what ever he wanted. The door wouldn't open. He was getting impatient with me. I just unplugged the whole register and tried to give it to him."

Instead of taking the register, he came around the counter and ended up swiping her purse with $400 inside.

Tatum was the only person working. For security purposes, the businesses plans to keep two people on duty. No arrests have been made.
