ALBANY, GA (WALB) -It wasn't exactly Santa's sleigh, but a special delivery of Christmas presents landed at the Marine Corps Logistics Base tonight.

The Air Evac Lifeteam from Cordele landed with a chopper full of toys for Toys for Tots. The crew transferred the toys into a vehicle on base.

The captain, Don Heironimus, of the Air Evac Team came up with the idea.

This is the first year Air Evac of Cordele has flown in gifts for kids.  Heironimus plans on doing it again next year.

That delivery helped Toys for Tots meet its goal as the toy drive wraps up. It got off to a slow start this year, but when organizers put out a call for help, people responded.

They've collected nearly $4,000 toys. That's more than last year. The Marines in charge of the program are pleased with the community's help.

The toys will be distributed to families throughout the Albany area Saturday.
