ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  Darton College is a step closer to building more dormitories on campus.

Wednesday Darton College sold more bonds and Thursday the Payroll Development Authority approved specific pricing amounts for those bonds allowing the college to go forward with construction. The college hopes to break ground on the dorms in the next several weeks so they can be ready for students in August. They've seen the need for on-campus housing grow.

"We've got a waiting list, I mean 300, 400 students we've kept each semester on that waiting list since those opened. We were then referring to our local and area apartment complexes and those were filling up," said Krista Robitz, Darton College Director of Communications.

Darton's first 210 bed dorm opened in August 2009. The new dorms will open in two phases of 230 bed units. While 73-percent of Darton College students live in Dougherty County, they've seen increased interested from out of town students who want to attend Darton.
