ALBANY, GA (WALB) – An Albany woman is in jail accused of beating her own mother to death Tuesday afternoon.

It happened in the 1400 block of West Gordon Avenue near Elm Street shortly after 4 p.m.

61-year-old Thelma Carter's husband called 911 when he came home from work and found his wife dead.

She was hit several times in the head with an unknown object and died from blunt force trauma.

The suspect is her daughter 40-year-old Janice Ware.

Police have not released a motive, but they found the suspect wandering not far from the scene.

"Several witnesses saw her wandering up the street and she seemed to be disoriented and several calls came in about her condition," said Phyllis Banks, Albany Police Media Manager.

Ware was living in the house with her parents. She is charged with murder and domestic violence.
