ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – Patients at Phoebe Putney Hospital got a visit from a couple of furry friends Monday.

Two women with the Delta Society Pet Partners and a pair of loving dogs visited patients to bring smiles to their faces.

The all volunteer group is a human health organization that promotes healing through the human animal bond. Marty Harris is one of the volunteers. She told the story today of a patient who had suffered a stroke, but brightened up when he encountered a dog that reminded him of his old hunting dog.

"My old dog hero walked up to him and put his head in his lap and the gentleman did try to pet him and did try to speak. And that was the first time according to the staff that he had made any attempt to move or to speak," said Marty Harris with Delta Pet Partners.

"And I think it's a wonderful thing because animals give love," said Patient Lenora Wilson.

There are more than 10,000 Pet Partner teams worldwide. Albany teams visit 13 locations in Phoebe and Palmyra, sometimes twice a month. The group says they are always looking for volunteers. For more information visit their website, www.deltasociety.org.
