Church blaze blamed on grass fire

ALBANY,  GA (WALB) –  An old Brooks County church burned Saturday.

The East Brooks County volunteer fire department responded to Mt. Zion Church on Sycamore Hill Road in Brooks County early Saturday morning.

The church is a total loss, but the fire chief suspects it was likely caused by a grass fire that spread to the church.

The church was falling apart and hasn't been used for 15 years. The State Fire Marshall's office is investigating.
