COOK COUNTY, GA (WALB) –A roaring fire in your fireplace probably sounds good.
You can buy firewood and help a Cook County program that helps men get back on their feet.
The House of Grace helps get men off the streets but they have to work and they're encouraged to live a life of Christian faith.
They split firewood and load it in the back of a truck. They sell and repair equipment and appliances. Clay Green came to the house of grace because of an addiction to methamphetamine. Now he's clean, married, and a House of Grace staff member.
"For anyone out there that's battling addiction or bound by anything in life, jesus comes first," said Green.
"It's not like an ordinary location for men to come and spend two or three nights and then go back out on the streets, we're here to provide them with a foundation to get them connected to jesus christ as their lord and savior," said Terry Moore, a House of Grace board member.
You could say they work to earn their keep and they enjoy it.
"Losing my family, I do't want to do that again and plus you work around here you don't just sit around," said resident Joey Garrett.
Garrett lives at the House of Grace. Between his faith and guidance from Pastor Keith Stith, who's in charge, he's overcoming his addiction to pain pills.
"You can have a problem and you can go to him and he'll help him through it," said Garrett.
There's currently 28 residents here and there's enough space to double that number for any man who wants to change his life.
"Whether it's time, prayer, financial contributions, we'd certainly appreciate it," said Moore. "The House of Grace is self-sufficient. It runs with the men working here and the car washes appliances being sold."
They have a store in Adel. If you need firewood to get you through these cold months, it's money well spent that keeps you warm and helps the house of grace.
The firewood is $75 a truckload. The House of Grace will load it up for you. They make some deliveries. Call them at 896-5440.
