MITCHELL COUNTY, GA (WALB) –A manhunt is underway in Mitchell County after a husband shot his wife in her chest and fled. It happened at 989 Pleasant Grove Church Road around 11:00 this morning.

We spoke to a neighbor who says he lives next door to Willie and Patricia Diane Hollis.

He says she ran over to his house around 1:00 PM banging on the door claiming her husband shot her in the chest with a 22 caliber pistol.

She told him she had been held inside the home at gun point for two hours before she managed to escape.

"The bullet hole was right here..maybe four inches maybe less from her heart, you could tell it was a 22 caliber it was a real small pin hole, she said it went through her back..but luckily it missed her heart," the neighbor said.

Mrs. Hollis was taken away by an ambulance to Palymra Hospital. Investigators say her injuries are not life threatening.
