ALBANY,  GA (WALB) – 13-year-old Lejuawlard Lunsford was shot and killed, by her mentally disabled 15-year-old brother. Investigators say she died on the way to Phoebe Putney Hospital.

Investigators told us the teens were at  home alone when she was shot.  Last night those teens were questioned  at the Albany Police Department to see if charges would follow.

It happened at 2501, South Jackson Street around seven o'clock.  Lunsford's brother shot her in the neck with a rifle.

Some might say this was really a freak accident, because the family tried to do the right thing and have the gun locked, but the lock was not installed correctly.

The two cousins and two siblings were in the home alone, waiting on their parents to come home from work.

Neighbors say the family hasn't lived there very long, but they often saw the kids playing outside together.

"They're a pretty nice family. I see the kids out in the yard playing and everything. They seem to be nice kids. Seem to be getting along with everybody in the neighborhood, keeping to their self pretty much," said Neighbor Marilyn Jones.

Investigators may classify the shooting as an accident, however a decision might not be made until next week.

Investigators hopes this reminds us all about gun safety. They encourage parents to keep guns out of the reach of children and make sure the locks are properly installed.
