ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  One hundred students at Turner Elementary are kicking up their heels to show off their new shoes.

Volunteers of the HEART Organization and school leaders passed out 100 pairs of new Nike shoes today. Parents watched as students were called up one by one to get a pair in their size. The Kiwanis Club of Southern Rivers also donated several shoe tying kits through Project Shield. Students were excited and thankful for the gifts.

"It makes me feel wonderful because I can get a pair of shoes," said fifth grader Ca'Toria Glover.

"It also promotes a lot of self esteem when a person is dressed or a child is dressed nice, then they want to be nice and they want to get good grades and be praised," said Ayasha Banks, Kiwania Club Southern Rivers.

Jackson Heights, Sylvester Road, Morningside, and Martin Luther King Junior Elementary Schools will also each get 100 pairs of shoes for their students. HEART solicited churches throughout Dougherty County along with family and friends to raise the money to buy the sneakers.
