ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany State football team committed six turnovers and Delta State took advantage in a 28-7 victory in the NCAA DII national quarterfinals.
The Rams scored first on their opening possession.
Quarterback Stanley Jennings capped a 72-yard drive with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Ronnie Childs put ASU on the board 7-0.
An interception by Jennings led to the Statesmen first touchdown.
Micah Davis completed a 12-yard pass to L.J. Castile to tie the score with 4:33 left in the first quarter.
Orion Ponder's long kickoff return gave Albany State the ball in Delta State territory on the next possession.
Stanley Jennings then found Ronnie Childs on a play that gave the Rams first and goal at the DSU six-yard line.
On third and goal from the two, a bad snap that went 20 yards over the head of Orion Ponder with Dominique Davenport recovering the fumble for the Statesmen.
The Rams forced a punt on DSU"s opening possession of the second half but Janell Jones fumbled the punt and the Statesmen recovered at the ASU six-yard line.
On the next play, DSU's Trevor Deed ran into the endzone for his first touchdown of the game.
After forcing an ASU punt, Davis then completed a long pass to Maurice Moore.
The drive ended with Davis throwing a touchdown pass to Deed and the DSU lead was 21-7.
The Rams final fumble of the game led to the final score a touchdown run by Brandon Lucas.
Delta State is now 10-3 and will play Shepherd in the DII semifinals next Saturday.
Albany State finishes the season 11-1 after losing for a third time in the national quarterfinals.
