New business coming to Tifton

ALBANY, GA (WALB) – There was good economic news Friday in a community hit hard by layoffs. More than 100 jobs will be coming to Tifton next year when a major pillow and bedding company opens a manufacturing plant.

In the past three years the Tift County area has lost more than 2,000 jobs but city leaders have slowly been bringing new jobs to the area.

American Textile Company based in Pennsylvania will open a plant in Tifton creating as many as 120 jobs.

Building number 218 in the Tifton-Tift County Industrial Park is the 214,000 sq. ft. facility American Textile Company will occupy.

"We were in the hunt for this thing with 10 other prospects from South Carolina to Georgia," said Mayor Jamie Cater, Tifton.

State leaders site Georgia's competitive resources, progressive business infrastructure, and Tift County's skilled pool of labor as a major selling point.

"Our Chamber and Development Authority has been working tirelessly and we have a lot of good things in the pipeline," said Carla Hall, Incoming Chamber Chair.

The 120 jobs will be created over five years, the company plans for 50 immediate hires and a job fair later on.

ATC has pillow manufacturing facilities in Duquesne, Pa.; Salt Lake City, Ut.; Dallas, Tx.; and now Tifton
