ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Hanukkah began Wednesday and people in Albany celebrated with a dinner at the Temple B'nai Israel.

Adults and kids enjoyed traditional food like latkas also known as potato pancakes.

They also took part in a short candle lighting ceremony to celebrate the rededication of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem at the time of the Maccabean Revolt 2,200 years ago.

Hanukkah will end December 9th this year. It's one of the years the holiday is closer to Thanksgiving than Christmas.
