THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) –Volunteers are getting Thomasville's Cultural Center ready for its 1st Annual "Christmas at the Center" event.

The event kicks off Friday at 7 PM with a preview gala and lasts through Sunday.

It's raising money to support the many art programs held at the center.

Volunteers and vendors spent the day decking the halls with holiday splendor by a collaborative of award-winning designers and some new artists.

"Many of the women and families that are working here haven't used a glue gun or craft paper or decorated anything," says Michelle Arwood, the Thomasville Cultural Center's consulting director. "So we're actually all learning to do some of those things and that is always part of our mission."

Throughout the weekend there will be food and a gift marketplace, performances by a variety of dancers and musicians, and even an appearance by Santa & Mrs. Claus.

The event is being co-sponsored by Thomasville's Junior Service League.
