Holiday eating can still be healthy

ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The holidays traditionally mean, cookies, cakes, pies, and other goodies but dieticians say they don't have to be unhealthy.

More than 85 people took part in the Health Department's Healthy Holiday Eating program Friday.

The group got a healthy lunch of club sandwiches, soup, and fruit. Dietician Jodi Zelman explained there are easy changes you can make to recipes that change the fat, but not the taste.

"Modifying recipes, ways to cut the fat for example, changing out whole eggs to egg substitutes, you get the same flavor and consistency in your recipes without the extra calories," said Zelman.

Each participant got a healthy holiday cooking cookbook put together by the Health Department.
