ALBANY, GA (WALB) –  The investigation continues into the death of a 60-year old Sasser man who was struck and killed as he tried to cross a highway in Dawson Wednesday night.

Jerome Leon Cheek was hit on Highway 520 just before 7:00 PM Wednesday. Troopers say Cheek apparently just walked out into the path of a car driven by Sam Mitchell.

Thursday they were still trying to reach witnesses. No charges have been filed against Mitchell. Cheek was transported to Phoebe Putney Hospital where he died.
